Biography
My name is Rory Smith and I am the founder and owner of Celtic Teachings Music School. I started this school in 2024 with the intent to make traditional Celtic music more popular and share my love for this amazing style of music with the world. Celtic Teachings is a place where students can enjoy learning a wide range of instruments used in Celtic music.
Originally from Newfoundland and Labrador, I started playing the fiddle after attending the Newfoundland and Labrador Folk Festival when I was three. After moving to Vancouver in 2018, I apprenticed under the watchful eye of a local Celtic teacher during which my journey with Celtic Music really began. I discovered my love of teaching immediately after my first session with my first student, one of my sisters friends, in 2023 and have not looked back since.
As mentioned, my first instrument was the fiddle however my repertoire has grown to include the bodhran, dulcimer, Irish penny whistle, and concertina. I have even dabbled with the uilleann pipes but that is a work in progress. Please reach out and connect as I hope we have the opportunity to play some tunes together in the near future.
